Leon Atkinson began programming professionally in 1994 at a start-up that attempted to launch an Internet portal for mortgage brokers. Then, after spending a couple of years at Quantal International working on an equity portfolio optimizer, he joined his friends at Clear Ink building Web applications full time. Leon was the technical lead for many successful Clear Ink projects over the years, such as Restoration Hardware and John Muir Health.
Recognizing the need for better documentation for his favorite scripting language, Leon wrote the best-selling book, Core PHP Programming, now available in a third edition. He also wrote Core MySQL and had a regular column for Zend.com.
Leon lives in Martinez with his wife, Vicky, and his two sons, Tre and Henry. He enjoys playing and inventing board games, listening to podcasts, and coming up with new features for his Random Generators.
Leon graduated from Weber State University with a BS in computer science.
